Teen Programs
The Valley of the Sun YMCA provides many programs for youth and teens.
Youth & Government
Students in grades 9-12 role-play as a lobbyist, legislator, attorney, judge, or reporter for 5 months. Students learn about themselves, values, and how to improve their community. Delegations meet weekly at various locations. Many leadership opportunities are available. The program concludes with a 3-day Model Legislature/Court Conference at the State Capitol, where students put their new knowledge to the test! This program involves a weekend stay in a local Phoenix hotel.
Program Dates: January to December (meeting dates decided by individual clubs)

Model United Nations
Students in grades 6-9 learn about another country, YMCA values, and the global community. Teens learn about the basic structure and function of the UN. They work in teams to research a foreign country, write proposals, and create a display about their country. Clubs meet weekly at various locations. Many leadership opportunities are available. The program concludes with a two-day Model UN Assembly where countries propose and debate solutions to international issues. This program involves an overnight stay in a local Phoenix hotel.

I-Learn
i-Learn offers a flexible way for students age 21 and under to earn a high school diploma. To enroll and participate in i-Learn, students must be self-motivated, work independently, and not currently be enrolled in school. Students commit to a regular class schedule, usually either weekday mornings or afternoons. i-Learn is offered in the summer for students who need to make up classes and for I-Learn students. All students receive a free individual YMCA facility membership. Program partners include Primavera Online High School, Chandler Unified School District, Agua Fria Union High School District, and the Maricopa County Regional School District.

YMCA Achievers
The Achievers program exposes students in grades 7-12 to diverse career and college opportunities, positive role models, and academic support. The objective is to prepare students for successful adulthood through activities that build academic, social, and leadership skills. Participants should have a desire to attend college. Students participate in career clusters, tutoring sessions, mentoring, college tours, cultural events, community projects and leadership activities. School clubs meet weekly either during lunch or after school.

P.R.Y.D.E. Program
The P.R.Y.D.E. Program is an intervention program that serves youth between the ages of 8 and 17 who have exhibited or engaged in delinquent behavior. Youth are serviced through an eight hour life skills class in which skill development in the areas of communication, problem solving, and social skills as well as education in drugs, goal setting and juvenile laws are the focus. Upon completion of the program, youth receive a free membership for use at any YMCA facility for a period of one year. Classes are held on Saturdays from 8:30-4:30. Lunch is provided.
