El Mirage’s relationship with the Valley of the Sun YMCA began in 2009 when a market study revealed that residents have an extraordinarily high level of interest in having a local YMCA.

Key facilities and program features are as follows:

• Outdoor heated pool for swim lessons and recreation
• First-class fitness center with cardio and strength building equipment
• Indoor multipurpose gym for indoor sports and adventure activities
• Studio for group exercise classes
• Studio for spin/cycle
• Health and wellness programs for teens and adults of all ages
• Fitness, wellness and social programs for seniors
• Complimentary child watch while parents work out
• Personalized fitness and health plans

Part of an international network focused on three pillars—youth development, healthy living and social responsibility—the Valley of the Sun YMCA has 17 branches in 11 Arizona communities, two overnight camps, and serves nearly 1.8 million people annually via hundreds of programs.

More than merely a fitness center, the Y offers 26 community initiatives designed to enhance the lives of all young people and to provide practical and life-changing services to at-risk youth in primarily low-income regions of the Valley and State. Since its earliest days, the Y has never strayed from its commitment to four core values: caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

While funding to construct and equip the Northwest Valley Family YMCA is in place, the YMCA and El Mirage are seeking $500,000 in private support to provide for operations when the facility opens, while programs are developed and memberships are built.

It is sometimes difficult to determine how long it will take for a new Y to become known in the community and for families and individuals to join. Five hundred thousand dollars will ensure that the Y is fully operational on opening day. It will also protect the sustainability of the new facility as memberships and programs are populated.

Private support is being sought from all those who have a deep rooted interest in enhancing the quality of life for all those who live in El Mirage and surrounding communities in the Northwest Valley. It is our hope we can count on you.
