YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program-16 Weeks Can Change Your Life

In Arizona, more than 1 million people have prediabetes and are at risk for the onset of type 2 diabetes. In Maricopa County alone, there are approximately 720,000 individuals with prediabetes. Valley of the Sun YMCA is rolling out the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program (YDPP)-- an innovative model to help reduce the prevalence of diabetes in our communities.

Based on the landmark Diabetes Prevention Program funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), this behavior modification program focuses on healthy eating and increasing physical activity. These two changes, coupled with a small amount of weight loss, have been proven can prevent or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes by 58%.

For more information, contact the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program Director, via phone 602-212-6189 or Email.
