Aquatics
The
YMCA is a leader in providing swimming instruction for children, providing
swimming lessons, water safety, and water sports skills. Aquatics programs,
like other YMCA activities help to build strong kids, strong families, and
strong communities.
- Children have a great time learning how to swim, making new friends, and
participating in developmentally appropriate activities that teach life skills
that help them grow in spirit, mind, and body and develop a lifelong appreciation
of aquatic activities.
- Parenting and aquatic safety tips are incorporated into the program through
parent meetings and handouts. The skills children learn in class are reinforced
through family huddle activities and other parent education materials children
take home in handouts.
- In the under-three portion of the Parent/Child and Preschool program, parents
(or other caregivers) and their children take part in activities that help
them to bond, and instructors encourage parents to learn about and play with
their children.
- Teaching community members aquatic safety and basic rescue skills is an
important contribution to the community. The more people who learn about
aquatic safety and rescue, the more lives that can be saved and accidents
prevented.
- Volunteer opportunities through the YMCA Swim Lessons program also strengthen
the community by helping volunteers learn the importance of helping others.
Aquatics programs vary among the branches, please contact your local branch
for program availability and schedules. |
